hey :fishy ies.
Some advice, I get the urge to eat (not exactly binge) frequently. Do you guys have any idea on how to avoid eating when I have the urge. Especially when I'm not hungry. I'm tired of purging, and I actually made it through one day with out doing it on Saturday. I was proud of myself but I'm back to the same habits. I just want to stop myself before I eat too much and then go purge. So if you could help me out of this rut, I'd be very grateful.
Thankx guys!!!

Sandyclaws,

I wish I had a solution for you. I think alot of us here are struggling with the same thing you are. There are some helpful ideas on this website ( I think they are listed under coping) Like brushing your teeth when you get the urge to binge, get out of the house, etc. Post here when you have the urge. Above all, keep trying! Mary

hey - good question! Yes, I do think many of us deal with the same thing. I figured out that if I can just eat right, then I won't have the urge to get rid of the unhealthy food or too much food. Here are my suggestions:

****)When you're hungry and it's not mealtime, eat a piece of fruit with a glass of water, yogurt, or other healthy snack.

****) When you are hungry, it's your body telling you it needs food, so go ahead and have a little something, otherwise we'll eat more later or have the desire to binge...

****) Eat enough protein & fruits and veggies, not just carbs.

****) Don't buy foods that you do not think are good for you, or that you would have a tendency to overeat, (if they're in the house, that leads to bad news)

That's all I can suggest, but I wish it were as easy to do as it is to say! I've been terrible lately!!!

Hi ther SandyClaws,
I think nina gave some good advice.
If you are hundgry you should eat. The hard thing for people who have been abusing food is we lose touch with our body's needs. I think people need to eat pretty often, every two -three hours, probably three meals and two/three snacks a day. I find the urge to binge is much decreased when I eat often - I am less hungry when I start and I don't feel it is my last meal for ages.
Also I really believe that the way to break to binge purge cycle is to put as much effort into not purging as not binging. When you purge, you set yourself up for the next binge. You also tend to binge on more if you are thinking youy are going to purge anyway. Preventing yourself from purging is an extremely difficult and brave thing to do. We know how hard it is. But I can honestly say that it really helped me break the cycle. And no, I didn't put on any weight!

good luck

....long time reader of yours; first time responder.....

Howdy, SC. hehehe cute name.

Anyway, DAMN STRAIGHT!!!! I struggle with this mocking issue CONSTANTLY :ugh :ugh
I must say, I laughed at Nina's suggestion:

:stars don't keep bad foods in the house, this only leads to BAD NEWS :surprise !!

Isnt' that the darn truth!! How many times have I told myself THAT LIE!!! : Oh, I bought this for my hubby. REALLY! It's for him. Oh, okay, one bite............... DOING...GONE...

I come here to the :bowl and either swim around, or post and vent my feelings. I have to stay completely away from the kitchen, preferably on the other side of the HOUSE!!! I also try to nibble on something every couple hours. GOOD STUFF: not crap. Frozen grapes work for me. Because they're frozen, they take longer to eat and you'll less likely eat POUNDS of them. Or putting on some headphones and jammin' out. Music REALLY calms me down. For some reason, when I have on headphones, my desire to eat totally dissipates.

Good luck :clover, SC

:hugon Hi SandyClaws :hugoff

PS: Love your name! Are u a cat lover too? :cat

Back to your post. Yeah, I do the same thing all the time, nibble on this, some of that, etc, when I'm not really what you call hungry. I think it's just that empty little spot in our soul that feels like good enough and we want to shut it up. When I really AM hungry, after I do eat some food, I always feel guilty and it's got to "go" most of the time.

I think the other :fishy 'ies gave you some good advice. Log onto the :bowl and stay put, or journal, or just keep unhealthy food out of the house.

No brilliant answers here, just wanted to let you know I totally understand how you feel 'cuz I get stuck in it all the time too!

Keep hanging on!!
