I am assuming that my information is accurate...however, the news has been known to be wrong. :winky
I understand that there may be a draft again?
Just wondering what the :fishy out there swimming in the :bowl think about this possibility. And also wondering if anyone finds it a coincidence that it's coming up in an election year.
Personally...I don't agree with it. The army should stay as it is....voluntary. Well, that's my cheap-o two cents, what's yours????

Personally, I have a twenty-one year old brother and would stop at nothing to keep him out of a war. He cannot go. I am totally being stubborn, but my brother is my heart. I am biased in this sense.

I am against war, too. That colors my views, also.

:peace and :love,

Christine

personally I think that voluntary is the way to go. However, I think that men and women should be subject to the Selective Service (http://www.sss.gov/) registration requirements as men.

I think that the armed services should remain voluntary.... unless that is insufficient such as a third world war and we do not have enough troups in the reserves to call up. I think that both women and men should be drafted equally, if there is ever anothe draft. If we want equality we should have it in everything If I was young and healthy enough to be drafted, I would be a conscientious objector.

Macgirl & Ribbon....
I totally agree about women being subject to selective service. (And the draft if it happens)
I have been in arguments with "feminists" about that and they don't want to sign up. Most of the feminists that I talk to don't seem to want to have to do things like that. Not so equal, is it? Well, hopefully it'll never come to a draft. That would (for lack of a better word) suck.

I'm not a US fishy... so this wouldn't apply to me... but still, I find it so scary!

I'm turning twenty this year, so my age group would be the first people drafted. Wow.

In any event, I'm totally against the draft myself, and hopefully it won't come to that for all of you!

that truely FREAKS me out.

my guy:love is in the army reserves. And belongs to a retirement base (basically they'd be the last to go, before they start taking people off the street.)
I AM very much against this war. BUT if there was a draft, I believe much like the others; the should equally draft men and wemon.
but, when it comes to this perticular war, I would be pissed to see even my guy go over there; let alone people being drafted.

I hear ya :ohboy. I do feel like a hypocrite saying I'm for women being drafted (if there is a draft) knowing that I a) am too old and b)would move to canada and be a consciencious objector :peace.
I guess my point is what is fair for our sons should also be fair for our daughters :love.

I say no to the draft - for men and women
but since men already can be subjected to it - I don't want women to be as well.
I'm a feminist and I don't think I'm being hypocritical.
This is not an equal world and it's the men who are still starting the wars, by and large.
Why should women have to suffer even more?
I don't think war usually solves anything anyway, for the most part. Sometimes it does, but I think mostly it should be Avoided.
And, if I were a mother, how horrible to have not only my sons but also my daughters taken from me to fight wars.
It's a moot point, I guess, for myself as I am too old for a draft and would also be a conscientious objector - and/or move to Canada, like Ribbon.

I totally do Not care about equality when it comes to the brutality of war.
If I had my way, men would also be spared.

Yeah, a draft would definitely suck. I'm with Ribbon on this one, I think that if women want to be treated equally, we should take the bad stuff that comes along with the good...since nothing is perfect, right? But I'm completely against the draft for anyone, and would not hesitate to move to Canada if necessary. Military service should be voluntary. Really, how effective is a soldier going to be if s/he is totally against the whole idea anyway?

I've always thought war was the most childish game played by adults. How mature is it to say, "You don't agree with us? Well, fine then! We'll just drop a bomb on you now...maybe that'll show you who's right! Oh, still don't agree? Ok, I now pronounce you the axis of evil and I will destroy you!" Alright, so maybe that's stretching it juuuuuuuuuuust a bit:winky. Maybe I'm just naive in thinking this but, in the words of some wise person (can't recall who LoL), "Can't we all just get along?"

Also a quick question...I'm not too up on my politics...who is trying to bring back the draft? If the rest of the country thinks anywhere along the lines of the :fishys, then I doubt it will happen without some major protests.

We can be cannuks together :supergrin.

Ribbon's history lesson :supergrin :winky

I believe that was a not so wise person, Rodney King, the man who was on tape being beaten by LA cops in MCMXCI. The cops lied about what happened, unaware that someone had taped the incident. The next year the cops were acquitted and that caused the LA riots. Which is when he said, "Can't we all just get along."

He was later arrested and charged with similar crimes after winning a large settlement from the city of LA, which is why I call him unwise.

the idiotic USA foreign policy makes me glad that I can always move back to being a :uk :supergrin. :loveHubby even has a Euro passport, so we wouldn't have to worry about being divided.

Quite frankly, both myself and hubby would be of more use to a government for our brains, not a war effort. Sixty years ago, he would have fit right in at Bletchley Park.

:muhaha :muhaha I'd be more service to the armed forces if I wasn't drafter and stayed home to do my own thing. I'd probably be kicked out and tried for treason for speaking my mind about the war, the president and the draft :zoinks :muhaha.
