So....who in the US or abroad listened? and, do you have any comments?

I'm a little worried by the idea that the "Marriage Protection Act" (i.e. marriage is between a man and a woman) might become a constitutional amendment. I will be happy if Bush follows through on the promises for education and prisoner rehabilitation (well, recently released prisoner rehabilitation/employment). I'm skeptical, but trying to stay optimistic about those issues. The rest didn't sit well with me, but I tend to be much more pacifist than our current administration.....

As a teacher, I loved his slip of "I got a letter from a girl who is two, who is TEN...." after he metioned the No Child Left Behind Act. Yeah, we're supposed to be cranking out little geniuses....:muhaha

I didn't watch because I prefer not to be lied to :ohboy :muhaha.
My thoughts on marriage protection act is that it's antigay and he's hoping to get the right wing religious conservative vote in november :reallymad.

Wow, am I the only Bush supporter here? I'm not a staunch conservative, but I feel pretty good about the general direction in which we are headed. While I don't see Bush as the most intelligent president we've ever had either, the dems aren't much better with their dumb commentary about the jobs lost under his watch, etc. Let's revisit Economics ************, shall we? Most importantly for me, I've voted Dem many times in my life but I won't stand behind all the negativity they are spewing lately. They have become the Victim Party.

I'm not really feeling a lot of Bush's rhetoric/policy, but I was happy to read about his amnesty program for illegal aliens. I live in southeastern Pennsylvania and there are a lot of hard working immigrets employed in the mushroom industry heere, doing jobs that native-born Americans won't do because the work is physically taxing and doesn't pay well. My father works at a company that employs only legal immigrants, and the treatment and safety regulations are better because the workers are all accounted for.

It still surprises me, though, that with issues like terrorism and unemployment to worry about Bush devotes so much of his worry to the sanctity of marriage.

I agree re: devoting so much time to "sanctity" of marriage (never mind the divorce rate is high and holding steady for us "straights").
Marriage could never be for gay people...my brother holds this view. I'm embarrassed to even talk to him about it.
When will people ever realize that love and reasonable boundaries and emotional stability are what matters in healthy families - not the gender/sexual orientation of the two people who head the household? -Marigold

My favorite part was, as he was talking about the war and terrorism, he said, "Next year, key elements of the Patriot Act will expire," and some brave oppositionists applauded. Thank you Mr. Bush for taking my civil liberties away.

Grrr...I could only listen for about a half an hour. I heard the protection of marriage part, too. I think that's about the time I decided to tune out the rest of the speech.

:peace and :love,

Christine
