Did any of you all hear that Rush Limball *no idea how in the hell to spell it. Said that Oprah is causing American women to be depressed, weak individuals. What in the world? I am :reallymad I love OPRAH.

He got that from an actual study that shows women who watch Oprah are more prone to depression. But the study doesn't say the show CAUSES depression. It's probably that women who are depressed like watching the show because they find it uplifting.

As opposed to that charming piece of work Limbaugh who encourages people to view liberal women as "feminazis"?!? :reallymad
And what does he model for the country --- how to get your maid to buy you illegal narcotics in a Denny's parking lot, while he sits around on the radio railing about drug offenders needing to go to prison, fer cryin out loud?!
Gawdddddddd don't get me started on Rush! :wacky

I think that's what we call a freudian typo :muhaha :muhaha .
Although I'm not an Oprah fan, I dislike how that man has a way of twisiting everything to suit his warped political agenda.

Rush, rush, rush...................
How to think of him.
You ever remember those kids who would say or do anything (and yes, I mean anything) to get any type of attention reguardless of if it was good or bad?
Think of Rush as a child who acts and speaks out for attention.
He is meerly saying shit in order to upset people and get them to talk about him and his show. That is how he makes his big bucks.
You know, we are feeding into this by talking about him. If you ignore him and what he says, he will get the message. But as long as he gets attention for his negative behavior, he will keep shit like this up.

I don't know anything about Rush Limbah (sp?) but i do know that as far as his prescrpition drug problem, there are MANY people who become addicted to prescription drugs every day, simply because the drugs are so powerful and cause a chemical dependency. I have been addicted to diet pills, not because they cause a chemical dependency but simply b/c they gave me a pseudo-peace when i ate. and i can think of many times i would have been desparate enough to meet ANYONE in a fast-food parking lot to buy them. Does that make me crazy too?
I am with Panthera on the whole ppl watching tv tend to be more depressed b/c they obviously have nothing better to do with their time than stare mindlessly at the 'boob tube". I like Oprah for the most part but if i watched her show every day of the week I'd go nuts too, just from knowing i wasted an hour of my day sitting there doing nothing. Now Law & Order , that's a different story (lmao). heh

Hi mytots,
What Rush did doesn't make him "crazy". It makes him a hypocrite.
Oprah isn't everyone's fave but her shows are often quite inspiring & not a waste of an hour to me. I usually tape her & zap thru the commercials.

I just had to LOL kensington ..didn't mean to offend Oprah's devoted fans. I really have nothing against Oprah (except that her annual "favorite things" show turns perfectly normal, content people into groveling, greedy nuts who will cry over a few freebies). I just thought if we could bash one celebrity might as well bash em all. I like Oprah and positively :love :phil . And we all know he wouldn't even has his own website if it wasn't for her.

Um... I use to be a huge fan of Oprah's but now, well, I don't really watch her that much anymore. I think mostly because I guess, while her shows are "uplifting" and at times "hopefull" to me, that are sort of at times like the "lifetime channel" in the "poor women" syndrom. And I think her book club is great, but when I went to look at the books she was always recomending they were so "depressing" most of them seamed like they focussed on "Women overcoming some sort of tragedy"
and I can say that at times, her "diet" shows, and even on her magazine I have felt a little bit "betrayed" she use to be so gunhoe on "accepting yourself for your size" but it seams like so many times, I see "change size equal happyness" Hopefully, she will go back to "health" not "weight loss"
I do enjoy her "angel network" shows. And I admire her for what she hhas accomplished. Rush - well, whatever he says, beleive him or not, I chose not to beleive what he says.

I saw Oprah once, and I found it pretty depressing. It basically encouraged celebrity worship. There were these two people (twins in their twenties, one male and one female) and Oprah "made their dreams come true" by letting them be reporters on the red carpet at some movie premiere. And the entire fucking studio audience went crazy when these two people showed up on the set- two people they had never seen before, who never did anything particularly great, except stand in proximity to movie stars. Way to go Oprah... maybe one day I'll be cool enough to talk to a famous person too.:ohboy
Women who watch Oprah are probably often depressed and enjoy the "uplifting" :ugh messages of the show. I would actually bet that most people who watch daytime TV are depressed. I agree totally with mytots and Panthera. I feel like crap after spending a few hours watching TV. I would guess that people who do it on a regular basis probably are aften depressed- whether zoning out in front of a TV is a coping mechanism for depression or a depressant itself...

thanks to all of you who replied...it opened my eyes and showed me that not everyone loves Oprah. LOL, and i agree with all of your oppinions to some degree and your right it is mainly women who are depressed that watch her show. However some people genuinly enjoy her, i do for one. i dont sit in front of the tv all day...i play golf and basketball and maintain a four-zero gpa. but i do allow myself a few well planned hours a week to watch my fav showes. i watch oprah when i am home by four and gillmore girls. LOL again. so i hope that by reading all these replies it will show all of you that not everyone thinks just like you...that is what makes a diverse country. and god only knows that we are a diverse country. But again thanks for writing in! Take care!

I'm sorry we made you feel like you needed to defend yourself (the fact that you play sports and get good grades). You didn't seem especially bothered by the post, but I just wanted to say that I know not EVERY Oprah fan fits my stereotype. Of course, Rush Limbaugh's comment was also a generalization... so I guess we figured out another generalization to explain his.
I'm sure you're very smart and athletic (even if you do watch Oprah:ohboy- just kidding!:cute)
