Through recovery, it's important to stay motivated in empowering yourself. Recovery is about discovering your true power.

As part of our chat we designed our own superheroes to represent our personal power. If you did it in chat, share it here and elaborate.

For some reason i really respect owls, because they are quiet and humble yet they are hunters with lots of power only when required.

I will empower myself everyday by giving my self what i need to live a happy and fullfilling life, which means meeting my basic needs such as food, shelter, love and security but also simple pleasures such a nice lie in the park, a SLOW walk in the afternoon sun, allow myself to sleep in for at least half an hour sometimes. The world does not end if i say NO to a request. Allow myself to choose ..rather than feel everything is a requirment and that i must do everything i tell myself i have to do.
This is my first posting ..so sorry if i am rambling too much.

This is a great forum..it has taken me a while to feel confident enough to post..but i have really enjoyed reading people's postings and feeling part of a community..no longer alone. :bounce

My motto would have to be my screen name "Just Do It". Just Do Recovery, no excuses!!!!!!!!!
I am going to empower myself each day by setting a small goal each morning, writing it down in my journal and at the end of the go back to it and journal about how it felt to accomplish it or if I didnt accomplish it , what got in my way, how can I change my thinking to accomplish the goal.
I will also set boundries surrounding trying to "help the world". I need to set limits on how much I can be there for everyone else, especially when I am not in a good place but neglect myself to help someone else, so in essence I am saying I need to put my needs first.
Latsly Iwill use my voice to get what I need. If it is too hard to say in words what I need(like with my therapist or mom sometimes) then I will write it down and give it to my therpist or show her my journal or with my mom I will write her letter. I find this way easier for right now to open up the dialougue.

well after watching the incredibles I realized that capes can be a very bad idea so I'm just sticking with a suit. But as for color....hmm....(this reminds me of my favorite question "if you were any color balloon what would you be and why?" my reply being blue because then if I was ever released I would feel at home) So I'll be blue. then I'll blend in with the sky and the sea. And sometimes I'd just like to fit in and not be this odd girl out that I've always been.

animal: (maybe I'll be like one of those crazy dino thunder power rangers and morph into my animal) right...umm....well...(this is really hard isn't it)...I really like birds, and fish, oh and turtles. Yes, a turtle. they have this great hard shell which makes them tough and impervious to many attacks but they're still really soft and loving on the inside. Plus they're fun and cool looking. I have a couple of red slider turtles.

name: I think I'll go with C'nugs. I recognize this is a strange for a superhero name but It's after my turtle, Chicken. (who looks like a chicken nugget and we sometimes call c'nugs cause we imagine that he's a rapper) plus than I could be like ******** cent and say cuh cuh cuh cuhcuh cuh c unit. (I'm laughing really hard over here at that really crappy joke)

motto: I'm gonna have to say "Eating whole slices of pizza in a single bite" because I think I would be really proud of myself if I could just eat a piece of pizza and not pick it apart and worry about it and take tiny little bites and freak out about how bad for you pizza is.

Cape would have to be forest green, because it reminds me of a deep redwood forest...where I feel safe. I don't think it would be a normal superhero cape though. Probably more like a cloak...because they seem to serve more of a purpose, and keep me warm and cozy!

My animal would be a wolf. They are beautiful and loyal creatures. They carry themselves with grace, they are uniquely strong and intelligent, yet they still rely on eachother to survive. I can also relate to them because they are often falsely labeled.

My name would be Sprijune. You've probably seen it all over my profile (if you've looked). I discovered it when I first realised I have a problem, and it has empowered me when I think of what it means. "Strength". Nobody that i've told knew that so it also represents a hidden strength inside me. Just like they didn't know what it means, they also don't know what I know I am capable of. (I just need help to remind me of that)

My motto would be the same quote I have in my signature. From Batman Begins, "why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up." I repeat that in my head daily, because I always feel like i'm falling and I have nothing to grab onto.

Well if I had to have a cape, it would be white, black, and grey...all the colors of Truth, which is what my name means...My animal would be a Lion, I'm a Leo and even though I'm not really into astrology I've always felt that it was a good fit for me...Lions are patient, meticulous, strong, and majestic...My motto would be "I never fail, because I never give up"...I will motivate myself by reminding myself that I am not perfect, and that is ok...Even a lioness doesn't get the antelope everytime...sometimes it gets away, but she doesn't give up and let herself starve...she simply regroups to take it down next time.

Cape: Black, because to me instead of black being dark it represents the colors mixed as one... and I feel like I have many different aspects to me. Plus, black just feels STRONG and bold to me.

But, it was between that and red....Red is another strong color for me. It symbolizes fire to me... and not only is my elemental sign fire, but to me fire represents personality, attitude, strength, opinion...etc.

Animal: Lion. They are strong, and magestic... and natural leaders of nature.

Superhero name: Athena.... Because she's the greek goddess of Wisdom

I think that if you believe in yourself, the treatment you're doing, etc works...then it will. And I also think that the more you convince yourself of something it will become you. Like, if you convince yourself that your cold will go away shortly and you'll be free to run and have fun again, then it will. Yeah.

My cape would be black. Black is a colour which hides a million things. It represents my current lifestyle because I hide a lot of things. I appear to be happy and sad at times when that isn't really what I am doing. I conceal. Honesty to the world would really help me out. But I just can't show people who I really am because its not good enough. And until I don't beat this ED and get to Stanford I am not going to let anyone in. Truthfully. The only person who knows me is my sister- and her also not this side of me. I will just keep working hard. That is enough for me.

Lioness is extremely powerful- the ability to rule the jungle and eat whenever you feel like it is SO powerful to me. I am like that. A lioness is wise and cunning; she will change colour according to circumstance; but most importantly she is right at the top. She works hard for it. And that is what I am and would like to be for the rest of my life.

That would definitely be PINK. That's my color, and I view it as a way of reclaiming my femininity. I am a girly girl -- But I am also TOUGH. I am a fighter, and a pink lover ... Trust me, you can be both. :grin

I think it's a cat :kitkat, because they are calm, strong, and gentle. They enjoy snuggling, and giving "support" in their own purring way ... They are playful, and fun, and jumpy ... Lol... Now this is a fun post... I take this entire thing far too seriously for my own good sometimes :)
My cape would be turquoise, because it's my favorite color and it reminds me of life, outrageous, dramatic, over-the-top life... And I want to live my life, not hide behind a shield of ED behaviors anymore!
My animal would be a horse... They seem so free and able to run... there is nothing weak about a horse and they are beautiful creatures and with care and nuturing, can be great tools and can benefit mankind.
My name would be Running Free... Because I think a life free of ED would truly be a free one.
My motto: To never fall would be to never rise... Strength comes from the struggle.
WHEN I recover from my ED, it will be my purpose to help all others around me and try to ease any suffering or pain however I am able.... (not just with eating disorders, but any troubled soul...)

a cat, definetly. I've always been a cat person because they are such amazing creatures. When they want to be they are so cute, cuddly, playful and warm but they are never afraid to defend themselves. I'd pick a cat as my guide to remind myself that I don't have to be either a sweet little doormat or a tough-as-nails psycho girl. It is possible to be both and be a good person.
