Hi :bowl!
I was flicking through my CDs today, and found my favourite album of all time, and listened to it for the first time in years. And it got me wondering whether any other :fishys have a favourite album, and what makes it so special for them?
My own is: Radiohead - The Bends
There are so many reasons it's hard to begin, but here are a few -
:bullet The music itself is just amazing, a wonderful collection of songwriting
:bullet All of the songs express feelings which, at the time when I first heard it, I was feeling very powerfully but couldn't express
:bullet It reminds me of falling in love for the first time :love:touched
:bullet It instantly takes me back to a whole time in my life, which was both very happy and very sad at the same time
:bullet With some of the songs, just the first few chords can stir up incredibly strong emotions, like no other music can.
Any other takers? :grin

eeek, well it's a hard choice to make because I'm totally in love with Tori Amos, so I'd say any of her albums, but agggh if I had to make the sacrifice of choosing just one, I guess I'd say from the choir girl hotel:grin
i would have to say all of my ani difranco albums i :love her and her words
right now i am obsessed with a new album i just got by alix olson, her words are great.
but there are so many more that i love, but i guess these are at the top of my list

My therapist used to be a singer in the 'sixties, 'seventies and 'eighties and just today I received a CD compilation of her songs from a guy I found on the internet. All her songs are limited to LP so he burnt them all on for me - for free too :yay. I'm listening to it right now and even though a lot of the songs are pretty dated I love them :supergrin. They're sort of mo-town like but her voice sounds a lot like Karen Carpenter's. I am so excited to finally hear her what she sounds like and I think it's gonna be one of my favourite albums for a while :cheesy.
Aside from her album, I also love my Miss Dynamite album (british hiphop album) and the new Tori Amos album, 'Scarlet's Walk'.

Ugh, I'm gonna have to pick four. Dammit, they're my cd's and I can! :winky
:notes Dave Matthews Band "Under the Table and Dreaming"
This album gets me out of my funk and has a majorly inspirational song for me, "Ants Marching" on it. It can put me in a good mood any day.
:notes Cowboy Mouth "Are You With Me?"
A little screaming along to "Jenny Says" and I'm a happy woman again. I have a special friend who loves this band too, and it makes me think of concerts with her and concerts with my sister.
:notes Tori Amos "Little Earthquakes"
When I need to brood and think these songs really speak to me, especially "Crucify" and "Precious Things"...in a LONG LONG time...my sister has been instructed that I want "Happy Phantom" played at my funeral/cocktail party. That and some of the songs are angry and when I am pissed at the patriarchy, I like to play and sing them full blast in the car.
:notes Alanis "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie"
The girl read my diary, I swear! I feel such communion with Alanis. She's almost my age and her thoughts echo mine so many times. This album is about her looking inside herself in therapy and recovery and has helped me so much in mine.
I could not LIVE without these cd's. They are in my car FULL time on heavy rotation.

I have three. One that I love because it brings me back to a time when I was really happy, one that I love musically, and one that I love for sentimental reasons.
My favourite album right now would have to be a bootleg my friend Ian made of the last Matthew Good Band show I went to(they're not a band anymore). I like that one so much because I went with him and like five other people and you can hear us talking and stuff. It was just so much fun and listening to it brings me back there.
As for stuff you could actually go out and buy...probably silverchair's 'Neon Ballroom'. It's such an emotional and personal album. It's helped me through a lot, as well as just being musically amazing.
The last one would be a burned copy of silverchair's 'diorama' that my friend Steph made me. It came out in Australia like three or four months before North America and both of us are absolutely obsessed with silverchair so we were like little kids at Christmas with this thing. I was doing IP treatment at the time so I wasn't going to be able to hear it until I got out a month later. Her and Ian showed up on the day after it came out to visit and she gave me the first copy she made of it. I have bought two copies of the actual album since, but the burned one is still my favourite. Well....that was nausiatingly sappy :sarcasm

hey Pooh-Bear - i love my Diana Tribute album too. Theres a song by the passengers that always raises the hackles on my neck and gives me goosebumps not to mention Michael Bolton singing Ave Maria (he can sing after all!)
My fave album is Dido - No Angel but fast creeping up is Avril Levigne's "Let Go"
I'm also an avid BeeGees Fan and i guess "One Night Only" and "This is Where I Came In" would be the faves

You want me to jsut pick one?!?!?! You want a short list?!?!?
:bullet Well, I for one :love Radiohead too! But I'm gonna have to go with Pablo Honey. I freaking love that CD!
:bullet I used to be in :lvoe with Bush. I was soooo obsessed. I went to a concert, and I couldn't talk for like three days. I loved all their music. My favorite Bush song? Probably either Little Things or Alien (suchs a pretty song).
:bullet Any DC Talk cd is a good one. I love their early stuff, it's so funny, but cool at the same time, if that makes any sense.
:bullet Silverchair is great too. I love Neon Ballroom
:bullet Swing (as a general category) is the best!
Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie. My altime favorite swing say in Sing Sing Sing. Or It Dont Mean a Thing.
Honorable Mentions: Beastie Boys are always classy. John Reuben is a white Christian rapper. He's cool. Backstreet Boys. Foo Fighters. Ian Van Dahl. Fatnboy Slim.
I"m all over with who I like. It's kinda weird.

Christina Acquillera - Stripped
I love this album, because in my opinion I could relate it to what recovery from an ed is like. It seems that each song relates to a different stage of recovery (not in order though), even though she was speaking from her lifes experiences (non-ed related). Previously, I would have shied away from her stuff, but felt compelled to buy this one for some reason. I am so glad that I did. :yay Christina Acquillera

To chose just one, i'd have to go for
:singingJagged Little Pill - Alanis Morisette
Oh my God guys, I love Radiohead, REM, Alanis Morissette and the Indigo Girls too :happy
I could never narrow it down to just one, although I must say the The Bands is definatly on my shortlist :supergrin As are REM maybe Lifes Rich Pageant or Fables of the Reconstruction.
At the moment my favourite is Indigo Girls - Rites of Passage, their cover of Romeo and Juliette is just so passionate it makes me cry! Every track is wonderful. :butterfly Sarah Mclachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstacy :butterfly
:notes Adia I do believe I failed you
Adia I know I let you down
don't you know I tried so hard
to love you in my way
it's easy let it go...
Adia I'm empty since you left me
trying to find a way to carry on
I search myself and everyone
to see where we went wrong
'Cause there's no one left to finger
there's no one here to blame
there's no one left to talk to, honey
and there ain't no one to buy our innocence
'cause we are born innocent
believe me Adia, we are still innocent
it's easy, we all falter
does it matter?
Adia I thought that we could make it
but I know I can't change the way you feel
I leave you with your misery
a friend who won't betray
I pull you from your tower
I take away your pain
and show you all the beauty you possess
if you'd only let yourself believe that
we are born innocent
believe me Adia, we are still innocent
it's easy, we all falter, does it matter?
believe me Adia, we are still innocent
'cause we are born innocent
Adia we are still innocent
it's easy, we all falter ... but does it matter? :notes (would be my favorite song/lyrics, from "Adia" written by sarah mclachlan, but not on the fumbling album)
(pardon the length there...i realize no one asked me what my favorite song was but i think sarah is brilliant, and i felt the need to share :)
