The total opposite of my parents' house, which is old and traditional.

From what I can see, my style is quite eclectic like my father's. Well actually, my father tends to go in for an austere modern look, complete with weird sculptures, but he also likes good quality antique furniture, as do I.
I suppose for me it's partly a matter of convenience & what's easy to do & look after. My Dad (anyone spot a running theme here?:winky) likes the walls to be pretty neutral, with a muted pattern at most, so that they serve the main purpose of displaying some of his (rather large) art collection...I think this is a good idea, & while I've never painted or papered a wall, I don't favour strong colours - I like the colour & contrasts to come from the pictures which are carefully hanging from the wall in a (hopefully) eye-catching arrangement.

my room is cutesy/modern. lots of industrial type stuff mixed with pastel colors, cute little things that i've picked up over time, purples and pinks.
Hi everyone
This is very relevant to me at the moment as I'm trying to decorate my bedroom!
I like neutrals and soft warm tones in my room. Really light and as spacious as possible. Lots of clean lines...and natural materials, I don't like fuss.
Its quite a strange thing to admit to (?) but I've really struggled with decorating my bedroom. I think its an identity thing - what I want my room to say about me. Up until this christmas I guess I've made sure its said as little as possible, with bare walls, white hand me down furniture and everything hidden in cupboards. Its been like this for years. I asked for a couple of things on for my walls for christmas and I'm getting some furniture for my birthday! So theres progress for you...Still not very adventurous, but moving in the right direction all the same.

My style is Early Second-hand Store! :cheesy
But I have things from family that have sentimental value, and a couple of tables from the nineteen-thirties or forties that I found at an antique show and really love.
The colour palette in my living room is cream, rose, slate blue and sage green, with dark wood...very soft and soothing. In my bedroom, I have dark green and wine, with a mahogany dresser and a brass bed. Sounds too intense for a bedroom, I guess...but in my old house my bedroom walls were valentine red, because it's my favourite colour and always cheered me up to look at! (Now I'm stuck with apartment-white walls.)
And I have lotsa red pots and accessories in the kitchen.

but when i will... :happy
minimal, zen .. white about everything except really old and used black wooden furniture. or completelly japanese minimal style. Or maybe white, transparent and fake jaguar decoration :happy
My parents are very much 'ordinary' in their taste in decoration. You come into our house and its pretty much a typical three-bedroom--almostouter-london-terraced-house. everywhere is painted over paper. we have dado rails and picture rails, a fair few photos and mostly matching furniture (although my dad is very much a fan of auctions so we have lots of old furniture that surprisingly matches well but not ikea type matching if u get my drift). My parenst are fairly cluttered but tidy ppl if that makes sense? they have a lot of stuff but it all has a place. the colours are fairly neutral... ivory and blue, ivory and teracotta, and just ivory
me on the other had... my room is nothing like the rest of the house!
firstly i should explain my room is a box. its a square about six-feet by six-feet (ie. the length of my bed). but my room has everything i need and everything has its place. i cant stand things not being in the right place in the right order etc etc.
more to the point the... MY STYLE... my room has three white walls and one very bright quite dark pink wall. everything matches, all has to be pink white and canvas/natural cotton. i have one of those canvas/natural cotton wardrobes, the same fabric curtains and small pieces of untreated pine furniture like CD stand and HI-FI stand and lots of shelves.
The only 'clutter' in my room would be my hundreda of photos. they cover one wall all around the window and are in numerous frames around the room. i like to constantly have reminders of good times around me
anyway, im rambling
loadsa luv

My room is pink themed and eclectic but blending. I have old metal signs on the walls and pictures of my friends.
