Hi fishies - I don't know where to post this, so I totally understand if it is moved or even closed, but I just thought I would give it a shot posting here.

My family's dog is getting older and lately he has been having these HORRIBLE seizures where he yelps in pain, and even though he is on an a big painkiller and muscle relaxant - it still doesnt cut it. I have never seen him in so much pain! His mouth is wide open, lifting one paw, cocking his head. If anyone even touches his neck in the wrong place he will fly into a seizure because xrays show he has degenerative disks.
He is the sweetest dog and its just so sad. Our family has taken him to a doggie dentist for root canal! A doggie dermatologist because he was losing some fur and he gets Rogaine every day. My mom even won a session from a raffle to get him a session with a doggie psychologist! We got him when he was six months old - the last of the litter, and we know that being eleven years old - he may not have much time left. He saw a doggie neurologist and he may get accupuncture from that doc or he may see a doggie chiropractor - its supposed to help the degenerative disks.
I'm sorry to ramble but I am home for a few days and I love him so much and I can't stand to see him in this pain. No one can - but its like we are saying the serenity prayer here - we can't change what is happening. All we can do is give :doggy Barger a lot of TLC.
I just need some support - it is tearing up everyone in the family because we are scared that we may have to put him to sleep if the pain can't be stopped with out spending tons of money. My mom and stepdad doubt that they will get another :doggy after Barger and I know we will all miss him so much. :sad:cry Thanks for :ear listening. Hope all is well with you fishies.

All I can say is I will be thinking about you and your doggy and I hope everything will be okay. It really hurts me to see any animal in any kind of pain. Never heard of acupuncture on animals, but I guess it would work! Hope he will make it through, and hope you will make it through along with him. :love:dog

Thanks a lot for your support - it really does mean a lot. We are just taking things one day at a time, and he is going to see a neurologist soon who can perform accupuncture. Its just that he hates seeing doctors - he gets so nervous. I really do appreciate your help though.

This must be so hard ... :sad
When our dog died (he had cancer all over, so we had to put him to sleep :sad) a long time ago, I spent months devastated - I'd lived all my life with him ... I was young at the time so I think it took longer to get over it because I'd never known any life without him ... we never got another dog either, and never wanted to ... but we're considering it now ...

We lost a rabbit a few months back ... she kept having seizures too ... there was nothing we could do, she was just constantly squealing because of the pain ... at least she is no longer in pain now, but I know it's damn hard when there's nothing we can do for our pets. We have to do the best we can to keep them as happy and comfortable as we can ...

I hope you can get to see the doc about this acupuncture ... our cat hates seeing the vet too, and every time he goes to have his teeth checked, he has to be sedated the big softie!! :cheesy

Look after yourself ... and I hope this acupuncture helps him some.

:love

Thanks a lot for your support Sunray :sun I feel bad for you and yours having to experience such a horrible and painstaking time with your dog. Animals are just so special. I'm going with my Mom this thursday evening with Barger when he gets the accupuncture. I know he hates seeing docs but if the two of us go, it will calm him down some. The dogwalker said that he had to take his dog to a chiropractor and it worked wonders. We're considering that too. One of the issues is that he is on Morphine, Valium, and a muscle relaxant - and we don't know how long he can stay on such strong meds. We shall see!
Sunray and seekinghelp - your words mean so much.

thanks again for your support! I ended up not going to his vet appointment, but my mom was with him. He was so nervous that he shook out some of the accupuncture needles! I took care of him with my brother for the last week when my stepdad and mom were in Puerto Rico and it was terrific that he didn't have any seizures or episodes for a whole week! We think he is getting better and you're right - he is a fighter! Thanks again :)
