Hello :fishy s

This is my first time on this board. I have been avoiding it a little as I am not sure where I fit in.

I am a Christian and have been baptised. But I am no longer as "straight down the line" as I once was and have lots of problems with the church.

I had a lovely church in Wales where questions were welcome and honest discussion allowed, but most churches I have tried in London I feel preached at and guilty which is not what I need.

God helped me beat the anorexia and I am so grateful for all he did. I believe that God is in all the good things in my life and that he is with me all the time. I often lose him in my depression but do believe he is still there.

I don't believe that all people who are not Christians go to hell. And I don't want to believe it. I believe there is truth in other religions. I believe God can be found in many places and not just within Christianity. All these things bring me into conflict with churches.

I am still open to God and still searching for God and hopefully moving towards him.

Does anyone know of a good quite liberal church in London.

I am going to Greenbelt in Aug which am really looking forward to.

Just thought I would check in on this board and say hi!

Wow, Comet--thank you for that post. One of the things I've always resented about the Christian religions is that they appear to be very black and white in their beliefs, and often act as if theirs is the only "right" religion. I had (note the past tense) a friend who essentially told me, "You have the right to believe what you want, but it would be a foolish waste of time, as anything but Christianity is a farce--and you'll find that out in the end when you go straight to hell."

Religion, no matter what yours is, is a wholly individual and personal decision. Who's to say which one is the "right" one? Personally, I think that they're all right, as it's not unlikely that we all came to "be" in different ways. After all, the fact that we're here on this planet at all is miraculous, so how can we believe that there is only one God/Higher Power responsible?

Welcome to the :bowl
I can relate to how you feel. I used to be a Christian, and became very discouraged by alot of things which I didnt agree with or had questions about. I used to be a childrens worker within our local church, helping on church holiday camps, youth group and sunday school. I moved away for a while and questioned alot of things and wasnt happy with some of the answers I came up with. (children have a great way of making you question things which you believed in for a long while and ask WHY? about everything.
Now I have been looking into paganism for a while and have begun to realise it isnt what people think it is (those that dont know much about it, think it is satan worship - pagans dont believe in satan / devil etc ) I have begun to realise I have alot more beliefs which run along side paganism than christianity. All I will say is do whay you feel is right and dont say anything is wrong until you have looked into it and understand their beliefs etc, you may be surprised and find something that is for you. Like I did. Good luck
Have fun at greenbelt. I'd love to go but I sadly have to work. ( I still have some christain beliefs - so you could say I am still looking for what I believe and where I stand in my spiritual life) Sorry I dont know of any liberal churches in london. Whereabouts in london are you? You might find something at greenbelt which will direct you into a church near you. Good luck
Hugs

:hugoncomet:hugoff Hello. I know we're sitting right next to each other this minute but I just thought I'd reply. You can always talk to me about your confusion though I don't know whether I'm not too fixed in my own ideas for you. All I can say is keep searching with an open mind.
