View Full Version : A Rather Odd Question...

Dear :bowl,

I'm not sure if this is a good place to ask this question or not, so please move it if needed it :) It is about me, so I figured it belongs here.

Here's the situation: I have a dog living with my boyfriend and myself. We both adore the dog, the dog loves us. The dog likes me more than my boyfriend--he prefers women (like most men!). That's okay with both of us. I like to cuddle with him (anyone else tried that with a large-sized dog? Its a *new* experience.) and Mike likes rough house with him.
The problem is that whenever Mike and I try to cuddle, hug, or touch in anyway more than a quick touch, the dog attacks him! Nothing bad, but he'll throw himself at Mike and growl.

What to do?? Anyone know of anyway to fix this? He'll be with us for a while, so I need a solution! We take the dog everywhere (and I mean EVERYWHERE) with us--he was neglected by his real owner, so he needs alot of loving attention right now.

Thanks,
Lizzy

p.s.---We took him to the pet store to pick out some toys. He was so precious! We showed him all of the things we thought would be good for him, tug of war ropes, frisbees, etc & let him pick out the ones he likes best. His favorite right now is a chocolate flavored frisbee!!!

Hi Lizzy Bee -

I love dogs too but this sounds very frustrating! Has Mike tried saying to him (i'm sure he has) - when you both cuddle - "its ok- you're a good boy" and patting him on the head and maybe giving him like a lil treat - they make these adorable tiny size dog bones or throwing his toy over to where he is when you cuddle? i wish i had more suggestions! Good luck and keep us posted!

Lizzy,

it could just be that this dog has a protective nature around you. I have a german shephard at home who is extremely protective of me:ohboy. I'm not sure how to fix it though, maybe try what amy suggested?

good :clover

Thanks for your advice...we've tried that...no luck! I guess we'll just put up with his loving attacks for now...although I do have a beautiful imprint of his top and bottom teeth on my arm. He didn't break the skin, only severe bruises.

I have learned also that he "dances" with me! If I sway to music, he jumps on his back legs and puts his paws on me. Very Sweet!!!

Love,
Lizzy

oh goodness, this has to be difficult. what if you or your boyfriend tried in a nice, but firm manner - NO, DOWN. In my family we have had quite a few dogs and if we correct them without being hurtful they learn more obedience. Maybe there is a dog obedience class? Good luck hon!
