i'm a struggling compulsive eater

compulsive eating is something that i've been dealing with my whole life. i am not nearly as bad as i used to be, but sometimes i do relapse. i have unrealistic ideas about my body image, even though deep in my heart i know i am fine the way i am, and that i should love myself for what i have accomplished, not because i don't fit shallow beauty standards. i want to learn to love my body instead of curse it. i want to start therapy for this also, but i have no idea of how to go about it. my parent's insurance policy will cover it, but i have no idea how to find someone who specializes in disordered eating or anything like that in my area (southern new jersey). is there anyone here who can lead me in the right direction?

Hi Kbear, welcome. You have definitely come to the right place. Eating Disorder specialists can be hard to come by, however, have you tried looking up on the internet: eating disorder specialists, or nutritionists. or even calling a therapist and asking if they know anyone who specializes in e.d.'s. I found my doctor and therapist through the internet and it turned out to be wonderful. There are many organizations that can also help you.
I think it is great that you are seeking out support and therapy for your e.d. That is very brave and it is not an easy thing to do.
I am a recovering anorexic and am now trying to recover from binge eating. Relapse does occur at times through our recovery and it does not mean that you cannot get back on track. In fact, relapse is a tool that helps us learn more about what we need. If you like to read, there is a book called French Toast For Breakfast, which I have been reading.
