I made an appointment next Monday to talk to a counselor/therapist about my possible eating disorder. Big step for me, as I usually decide that there is nothing wrong by the time I get the courage to pick up the phone.
I'm also thinking about attending an OA meeting Saturday...I've also thought about it for last Saturday's meeting, and the one before, and the one before that (you get the picture). Not exactly sure what I'm fishing here for...I guess just a few words of encouragement, or maybe a kick in the tush :-)

I know exactly what you are going through. I have just recently started to go to a therapist and attending OA meetings about my CO. It took some courage to get myself going, but I finally decided to take the first step. It has really been a great relief!! I know you will feel much better about yourself once you have gone. I did! So, get you courage up and take that first step. Hopefully it will be your first step to recovery. Good luck!

Great job, Elbasso!
I'm kind of in the same boat as you are (early stages of getting help). So, actually, seeing you take the first step just gave me a little more 'oomph' behind my motivation to get help.
Take care

Congratulations on your willingness to give OA a try. The program can really change your life----I know it changed mine dramaticaly. If you take the binge eating away, you have to replace it with something, and the OA program can give you a good blueprint/foundation on which to build your recovery. Get a good sponsor and work the steps, and you will be amazed before you are halfway through!!!!!

Update: Went to see counselor today. I think I'm going to like her...she's not going to let me sit there and just tell how everything in my life is peachy (I've done that with other therapists after a visit or two).
I really, really tried to go to an OA meeting (I thought of a few good excuses but didn't use them), but when I got to where it was supposed to be, there was NOBODY there!! I got the time off the internet, so I supposed it changed or something...ugh...maybe next time, huh?

Congratulations on seeing the therapist! Hopefully this will help you as it has certainly helped me.
That is a shame about the OA meeting. Go back to the OA website and check to see if there is a phone number for the group leader. Give that person a call to see if the meeting times have changed. I have only been to two OA meetings and have already noticed some change in my behaviour/personality.
I wish you the best! Good luck

Don't be discouraged! I'm a big believer in OA and all of its philosophies, so I encourage you to keep trying for those meetings.
What really sucks is the fact that I've been in the very same position. You finally get the courage to go to a meeting, and then, there's no one there...this has happened to me several times. I find that what happens is, that the meeting has died off (for one reason or another-usually because people don't attend) and the meeting information is never removed. So my advice is to give the meeting contact a call (they're listed on the website) and make sure that the meeting is still on and its location and stuff. I hope you get another opportunity to attend a meeting...it'll be well worth it.
