The recent trends that have been taking place in the fast food industry I think are great!!! I think it is long over do for these meccas of American :usa....(Worldwide really):world fast food to start offering customers a wider range of choices and while they are at it HEALTHIER choices!!! :happy
Burger King just introduced a whole new menu which includes healthier choices..which i may add would really help me when i just stare at the menu and feel like there is nothign for me to have. The other great thing is that you can go to their website and it offers a complete breakdown of the nutritional info for each of its products...
I think that this is a great message to society and also to young kids. It helps them to see that healthy food can be fun and yummy....Now dont get me wrong the other menu items are not BAD but I think that offering customers more of a choice is soooo great. I havent eaten their in forever but just knowing that they have new items that i may be able to choose lifts a great deal of pressure off me and makes me feel that i could go there and enjoy something! :happy SOunds silly probably. I guess thats it!

Soooooooo What do you fishies think ?? :idea

While I applaud BK's new "healthy approach" to fast food....hmmm, is that an oxymoron?
I don't know how many young kids will be jumping on this wagon. Most kids are raised on this crappy food source, and american kids are getting heavier and heavier. They now sell this kind of food INSIDE our schools!

It's up to parents to teach kids to choose healthy foods right from the start, and not eat so much of this "heartattack" fare.

Wonder how many adults would go to BK for this stuff? :cheesy

more than anything, i'm glad that they have veggie burgers now. i've been a vegetarian for seven years, and it's nice to be able to get fast food on the rare occasion that i feel like having it. :yay

I agree with you Lost that children need to be taught (primarily through example i think) how to chose healthy foods and how to incorporate all types of foods into their diets. I think that fast food industries who are offereing these options are setting a good example. I remember going to McD or Burger King when i was younger and I looked forward to it at times even begged to go. I dont think it was because i just had to have french fries or really wanted a hamburger it was just more of a fun thing to go and get a lunch with a prize in it or just go out to eat ....it was different so it was more fun. Thats why i think that this new trend (crossing my fingers that it spreads and lasts) is a great step. If the choices for healthier options are there then people will take advantage of them. They still are able to participate in going out and haveing fun and something a little different AND doing somehting good for their bodies.

I dont even know if i make sence anymore haha ,...so i think thats a sighn to stop rambling. :happy

I'm not a huge fast food fan and try very hard to not patronize fast food 'restaurants' (i hate using that word in reference to these establishments).
I'd rather see them engage in fairer labor practices - pay their employees a better wage, give them benefits, etc... - than just make their menu "healthy". I think that would benefit FAR more people than creating a so-called healthy menu for those of us that want a way to 'feel good' about eating fast food.

Fast-food places have actually been trying to introduce veggie burgers to America for several years. But whenever they testmarket them, no one wants to buy them. Consumers are finally showing that they are willing to eat them, so now it's worth the money for them to do a big marketing campaign.

British BKs have had bean burgers for a long time and I hope they start selling them in the US soon.

i know harveys has a veggie burger and burger king here has for a bit too. although theres a line of market fresh sandwhichs that seem decieving as they have more cals than like a triple cheesburger..so they can be a bit tricky. im not saying these things are off limits or promoting low cal ed food but just warning you that it may seem your making a healthy choice, when your not

has anyone read Fast Food nation by Eric Schlosser? I am on maybe page two and already i am like oh my god nooooooooooo! Everyone I know who has read it has either become a vegetarian or a vegan or just sworn off fast food forever. Kinda scary, but I'd rather be imformed about things than not. Has anyone else read it?

I think it's great that fast food restaurants are now catering to the idea of eating healthy. McDonalds, Wendy's and Harvey's all have a lighter choices menu now, possible burger king(I don't know about the one here), but all of these places have veggie burgers on the menu now.
And all but burger king have a wide selection oh healthier meals.
I really think it's great.
