Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this?

This won't be shown in the US, but in South Africa, where AIDS is raging out of control.

I was surprised when I heard it, but I think it is a smart idea to get education out to our youngsters.

Any other thoughts?

Hey :hugon new bride :hugoff

I read about this yesterday...I think it's a great idea. In the article they mentioned that they won't be discussing the specific ways someone can contract the disease, but they will be putting an emphasis on the fact that it's ok to be friends w/someone that has it. I think that's awesome. Too many parents have "fears" concerning diseases and "certain" type of people...no matter how much they try to keep it from children it ends up passed down to the children.

I also think it's great!

I heard an interview with one of the producers of "Sesame Street." She said that fifteen percent of the children in South Africa have been orphaned because of HIV/AIDS, so the character is also going to be an orphan. This will not only help kids understand they shouldn't be afraid, but the real orphans can see someone like themelves.

maybe we could advocate such a program in the us.

national pediatric/family HIV resource center — one eight hundred - three six two - zero zero seven one

pediatric AIDS coalition hotline — one eight hundred - three three six - five four seven five

pediatric AIDS foundation — one- three zero one - three nine five - nine zero five one

for the deaf and hard of hearing:

I think the HIV positive muppet is a great idea! Giving children this kind of knowledge is a good thing - that they don't have to be afraid of someone HIV positive, and give them someone to relate to if they are positive themselves. I was very pleased when I read about this. Children can learn acceptance as easliy as they can learn fear and hate, so lets start with acceptance and love!

This is such an EXCELLENT idea! What a great way to 'normalize' AIDS in the pediatric/HIV+ community!

I'm a nurse who actually works for the CDC (Center for Disease Control) now, and I am so :supergrin about this movie!

I hope that it will be shown in America!

Remember...wear a condom! (If your partner won't wear one, there are female condoms...) and Cris Tina, thanks for including the Hotline numbers! :yay
