View Full Version : Has any one seen my self esteem?

Since I've been relapsing in my eating disorder I haven't seen my self esteem. I've looked every where for it, but unfortunately it's gone.
It saddens me that I've lost something so valuable. A few months ago I was feeling pretty good about myself, even though I had a little more weight on me than I would have preferred. I :love ed the fact I finally had boobs, and cleavage on top of that :supergrin.
Now I seem to have lost it all together. Can anyone help me find it? It's hiding somewhere, just don't know exactly where.

Hi HippieChick,
I understand what you are saying about feeling good about yourself and then not-so-good when you relapse. However, what we both need to do during those times is look within at the person we are! We're much more than an "outward appearance." I challenge you to list at least three things that you truly like about yourself and would not want to change. For me, I think they would be:
I'm a compassionate person
I'm friendly
I am musically talented
I've kind of been in a slump too, so that was hard to do. Take care and :love yourself--you are worth it!!!

I think I see it!! It's still there - in you. It's just a bit hidden away because of other stuff going on around you.
The thing about esteem is that it folds up so it can get real small and hide away, but it can also get inflated (sometimes too much - especially in some men . . . !)
But it's still there, it just needs feeding. Which means little steps, just like regular feeding does.
It will come back. And you've done a big boost by looking for it.

right now you may not be able to find it...but I promise you that it is still within you...
It may be difficult to locate, but if you really want to..then it is definitely possible...
My suggestion on how to find it.....begin with a small step....for one week, every day right down one positive affirmation about yourself....it can be something small, but it must be positive...
the following week , you can increase it to two...and soon you will find that you have pages and pages filled with positive things about you...
give it a try..let me know how it goes...

Thanks so much for your replies.
I don't know about the postive things about myself, unfortunately I'm having a hard time being positive lately.
God I haven't been this negative about my body since last year. I was fine with my weight gain from recovery and then it was just gone. It's like I hit a brick wall.
I guess you could say I buried a lot of stuff inside and only thought I was recovery. Cause let me tell you if those issues aren't dealt with they come back to haunt you. And right now I've got noisy poltergeists roaming around in my head. I feel like I've been possessed by the ed poltergeist :winky.
I'll try the postive thing, but I'm not promising it's going to work :shy. It may be a complete failure (boy I'm way to optimistic:winky)

Addriene,
Im so sorry:sad that youre feeling that way. I hate to tell you this, but...I can't help you there.
The only person that can find youre self-esteem is you.
Look deep within yourself and you will find it, and the courage to rid yourself of your eating disorder.
