A white couple gave birth to black twins due to an IVF mix up.

They want to keep the black children they gave birth to.

The black couple want the children.

How could science let this happen?

Anyone else find this to be so awful for the couples involved, and the kids too...I mean how do you determine who the parents are in all of this?

It's a crazy example of what happens when science messes with nature and gets it wrong.

What are peoples views on this?
Who do you think the rightful parents should be?

Jo,

I definitely think the whole fertilization process is throwing new issues at us on a regular basis. I'm not a bio-ethics specialist, but it really is a screwed-up situation.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of the fertilization craze. I believe that there are plenty of kids out there who need parents and a home, yet people feel pressured to have their "own" children because of... i don't know, ego? maybe i would feel otherwise if i desperately wanted children of my own.

And yeah, science certainly does fuck up or fuck around with nature. These are very separate areas. Sometimes science can work to help or to understand nature, but so often we use science as a tool for our own desires (not needs) regardless of the consequences.

Hi Jo...

Just wanted to say that I saw the story in the news too and it totally stood out at me. It's an extremely difficult situation- and I can't believe that a mistake of this nature was even made in the first place. I mean, the mother who gave birth to these children obviously would love them and want them as her own, but I think the biological parents also have a claim, as it would bother me to have my biological child raised as someone elses. I just hope for the best in this situation, whatever that may be. What a mess!
