View Full Version : Activities you enjoy alone

Not that being single means that one does SO many activities solo, but some things i enjoy doing alone. At least on occasion.
What about the rest of you?
What do you like to do alone?
What would you like to do alone one day?
What have you done alone that was a good (or interesting) experience?
...

As for me - things i enjoy doing alone:
Going on runs or bike rides; sitting in a cafe and reading a book or a newspaper or magazine; going shopping (i actually don't really like shopping with other people - or well, it depends on who they are); hiking.

What would i LIKE to do alone - a weekend or longer back-packing trip. I think it would be a challenge mentally and physically, but i would like to push myself to do it. Actually, i'm going to try to do an overnight this month solo.
Also, trek through Europe alone - i've travelled through parts, but mainly with other people.
What i've done alone that was kind of... interesting?
Driven from coast-to-coast (USA) - a mad dash, so i'd like to take the time to really do the trip right.

Any other takers?

my favorite alone-activities:

:idea reading
:idea shopping (i love to buy all sorts of crazy clothes--so i can be a princess one day, a CEO the next, a fairy, a sport ...hee!
:idea watching the learning channel/discovery!
:idea listening to music and singing along really loud
:idea getting a quiet early dinner
:idea rollerblading
:idea walking in my neighborhood
:idea driving and looking at houses
:idea going to an afternoon movie
:idea going to museums
:idea cooking (with music loud)
:idea going to the theatre

i was really surprised that i don't like people with me when i'm doing stuff i *really* like--like seeing a good movie or a musical. i have so much fun just with myself! other people may not have as much fun doing this stuff and it brings me down, so i prefer to go alone!

you know, i was always pretty independent but i lived in the UK on my own for a while and that really helped me get off my duff and do stuff like go to movies, dinner alone. i didn't know anyone, so i HAD to go lone! that's when i really learned to be more comfortable with myself. it's really fun to spend a lot of time in your own head, to feel happy with yourself.

i am now missing my boyfriend since we've been together for the past three weeks and now he is away again... we usually see each other on the weekends anyway so i am often alone... and so i'll use this post as a way to remind myself that although i am bored and missing my bf now there are things i actually prefer doing by myself:

:bug workout (i never found someone whom i click with workout-wise)
:bug shopping (i don't mind shopping with others but it's fun alone too!)
:bug reading
:bug writing (i actually have to be alone to get writing done)
:bug sleeping (sometimes more comfy alone you know :shy)
:bug taking long baths
:bug doing my nails
:bug going online and doing pointless things
:bug singing
:bug driving (sometimes i like it alone so i can think)
:bug walking in the city

cool post!

Hey Kers.....

you lived in the UK for a while?? I'm a :usa and I would really like to live over there for a couple of years. I've started reading through embassy websites about visas/permits/etc etc etc and it *appears* to be a real pain in the ass all the way around. (however, I will not be kept down!!!). So, did you have a job before you went over there? Did you get a job once you were there? How did you go about that? Do you have any tips for me?
If you don't want to deal with it on this board, would you consider emailing me??

thanks!
