I've noticed several :fishys using this term. Am still not entirely clear what it means. Is it supposed to be complimentary? (If so, that doesn't sound right somehow :ummm)

its an evolution of "its the bomb." it does sound strange to me, too.

Yeah, it's supposed to be a positive thing - meaning "it's the greatest!" or "it's wonderful!" It's kind of a weird expression....
I've never used that particular expression because I'm too uptight to swear :bounce

it is used in the movie "Bring It On", in the scene where , hell, i'm brain dead,, the head cheerleader is trying to talk Missy into joining the squad,,,she says "we're the shit", meaning their squad are champions, the best.
