I just checked out "Wasted" and had to return it b/c someone put it on reserve at the library but from what I saw I am definitely going to get it again. It looked fantastic when I flipped through it.

I just finished reading "Life-Size" by Jenefer Shute and it was incredible. I couldnt put it down. I really found and discovered alot of my own self talk in it. She lists several of the books from your post as sources for her book. Her book is written as a work of fiction??? But it was awesome. Alot of real insight into the voice of the anorexic, bulimic and compulsive eater. Actually I want to own it now!!!!

I also checked out :

"Hunger: an unnatural history"

"The Golden Cage" <~ ****/**** way through this one, pretty good, clinical

"anorexia and Bulimia" by Paul Robbins <~great reference book, simple

THE ANOREXIC DIARIES <-- I have not read

THE BEST LITTLE GIRL IN THE WORLD <-- It was good, but much better and more recovery/hopeful was its sequel which is called "KESSA"

WASTED <-- Many people actually liked the book, I personally found it kind of blah

THE GOLDEN CAGE <-- I thought it was too clinical

PERK <-- I read this one a long time ago, I don't remember what I thought of it, actually -other then it was an easy read

STICK FIGURE <-- It was pretty good

I have read several others that I found to be very good ... I posted a thread a while back on this board with a list of them. If you do a search under this board and my username it should pop up.

wasted is the only one i have read from your list and i found it to be triggering.

What i did get out of it tho was the fact that i was her...or she was me... Basically, i read it long after i had been engaging in ED behaviors, but it just put into words what i was doing, and well, helped me in the begining of seeking tx, something i had never been able to do before. After reading her book, i thought, i cant do this anymore. Thats when i started looking for a tx team.

(ok that was probably way confusing:ohboy )

Wasted is an amazing book - Marya Hornebacher is a phenomenal writer -- but its really graphic and can be extremely triggering. i would advise only reading it when you are in a completely stable place.

Stick Figure - I thought was pretty good - I never got all the way through it but its an easy read

I havn't read the Best Little Girl in the World - but Ive read one of his other books - Cutting - bc my sister cuts and it was really really good. it paralleled cutting and anorexia and put my life into perspective w. how my sister and i use the same coping mechanism just in two different ways. but ive heard his other books are good - they're fiction though right? or at least in the fiction section?

I have read Stick Figure and it got me totally into my disease...worse....so just be aware that if you read that, be careful about what position of recovery you are in!
I have watched the movie "Hunger Point" on Lifetime and all it was encourage me with my disease.

I didn't like Stick Figure much, it wasn't very, well, I don't know, riveting? I feel bad saying that, but the writing style was very blah.
I've only read Wasted when I was in a bad place, and found it to be very triggering.

The only one of these aforementioned book that I have read is Wasted. I too find such books to be very triggering.

I found both "Wasted" and "Best Little Girl in the World" to be highly triggering. I believe they're listed on a lot of pro-ED sites for that reason.

Stick Figure was a book I didn't care for as I found it very poorly written and also it was written from the perspective of an age group I couldn't relate to when I read it.

The Best Little Girl In The World I have mixed feelings about it's well written but it talks a lot about treatments that I don't believe in such as hyperalimation which has sort of been rejected by much of the medical community. Also I've known people who have dealt with Steven Levenkron and they were not overly happy. I liked the sequel Kessa better if I had to choose one.

I like Wasted a lot though yes you have to be in the right place to read it. Honestly I didn't learn anything I didn't know already...However it often uses numbers and is quite explicit in its details about behaviors. Though Marya is a wonderful writer and an amazing woman.

I also found wasted to be very triggering, very graphic, but well written. It left me in a sad state - feeling that permanent recovery from an ed is rare. I was suprised its written with the intention of motivating people as I found it did the opposite.
