I can't breathe. When I eat, I EAT. And then I have this argument with myself. I hate myself so much for eating what I've eaten, no matter how little or how much. I mentally yell at myself, fighting with myself to get rid of it, but a part of me wants me to stop it. Then, after a little while, my chest starts to tighten and I feel as though some one is squeezing me. I can't catch my breath then, and I start panting and my hands start shaking. It's happening more and more. What is it? And does anyone else have this problem? If so, do you know how to fix it?

It sounds to me like you are having small panic attacks due to your e/d. I think it is really great that you are trying to fight so hard with yourself and it will be a struggle, but it does get easier. I would suggest trying to find something to take your mind off of food after you have eaten. Maybe journal, watch a movie, take a bath, go for a jog, do something creative, whatever you can to get your mind off things. Also some deep breathing exercises would probably be really good when you feel like this. I try to pick a color and jsut start counting how many things are in the room that are that same color, it at least gets you thinking about something else for a while .

Sorry if you read the first one I posted I read it wrong. But i too suffer from panic attacks and it actually sounds alot like a panic attack.

Do you have a T or someone you can reach out to?

Hi Beepers,

Your experience does sound like a minor panic attack. I have also experienced those before (especially when I took math in college - my worst hated subject!) It helps to just relax, take deep breaths and just try and calm yourself. If you have a friend who you trust, call and talk to them. Good luck!

It sounds to me like panic attacks or anxiety attacks. I get exactly what you described and I take meds for that, and they work wonders!! I take xanax and it helps. Call your doctor and tell him what your experiencing and he will be able to help you. You described a classic case of panic attacks or anxiety attacks. Let us know what happens. In the meantime, relax and be patient with yourself, and try not to get so anxious if this happens. Turn on some relaxing music or pick up a phone and call a friend so you can calm down. I get exactly what you described.

Panic attacks? Wow... Thanks for all the replies. I don't have a T... Not anymore. My mom got rid of her. She said that she wasn't doing anything since I was still dropping weight. I'm going to try all of the things you all said, especially since I'm going out of town with my soccer team this week. I really don't want to be 'freaking out' in front of them.

Thanks again.

It might be a panic attack & it might not be. The only realistic advice we can give is to see a doctor & find out what's going on. Be honest about your ed so a full diagnosis can be made. Whether you're having panic attacks or an actual medical problem, it's good to get whatever it is diagnosed & take steps to deal with it.
