I want to suggest this book to the :bowl. It's called Full Catastrophe Living, Using the wisdom of your body and mind to face stress, pain, and illness. The author is Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D.

If you have been introduced to mindfulness meditation or already practice mindfulness, then you will be very familiar with the ideas presented in the book. If you have done the exercises in the Anorexia Workbook, you will also have a head's up to the topic.

Kabat-Zinn studied Eastern meditation techniques and has applied them to a clinical setting at the University of Mass. Medical Center in his Stress Reduction Clinic. His Clinic is meant for people suffering all kinds of illnesses (from cancer, to chronic pain, to anxiety).

In this book Kabat-Zinn teaches the novice how to meditate and explains what mindfulness means. He teaches seven pillars of mindfulness, which I will list because they might give you a better idea of what it is all about: non-judging, patience, a beginner's mind, trust, non-striving, acceptance, and letting go.

I am posting this because I think this book is great, totally useful and practical. It's not meant to teach any sort of religous philosophy; it's meant to make people's lives more comfortable, ultimately to heal pain.

If anyone is interested in learning to meditate, I recommend finding a meditation group, or a beginner's "class" to see how it's actually done. And I definitely recommend this book for guidance and healing.
