my aunt sent me dying to be thin. she thinks it would be a good book for me to read. before i get into it, i wanted to ask for opinions. have any of y'all read it? did you find it helpful/inspiring? or was it triggering? i am just worried it could trigger me, and that is NOT what i need/want right now.

Hey there! I am really glad that you realize this may :trigger you abnd you are asking for help before reading!!!!
Altho it was a good book, I would caution you NOT to read it if you are not solidly into recovery. Many years ago wheni bought it, i used it for "thinspiration"- you know,. to help me get sicker and stay in the anorexic mindset.
I feel it more of a book for parents whose kid has an ed.
Maybe to avoid the temptation to read it, you can put it away somewhere? Or give it to your parents to read????
Goodluck!

I agree with Kelster......... it is indeed a very educational book, but also very triggering depending on your mindset going in.
It's worth the read when you are solid in recovery......... but not so much if you are just starting..
That was a nice gesture of your aunt to send it, I think, what do you think? In your mind was she being appropriate, sending this to you thinking it was something worth your while?
Good luck!

oh, i think it was a really nice gesture. my aunt has struggled with EDs for most of her life. she sent me some other reading materials as well. i don't remember any other titles. i will check when i get home.
thanks again!

I got the book when I was wanting some more information on how to be "the best anorexic". My friend asked what book I got and then she said "yeah youre dying to be thin..alright" I didn't pay much attention to the comment. But as I began reading it I thought "I already know everything about EDs." So when I was in a healthier mindset I took it to the used bookstore and haven't even picked it back up to buy it!:happy It is extremely triggering for me.

I read it a while ago but also found it rather TRIGGERING!

I have just read the book also. As a bulimic it made me realise that my condition can be as deadly and damaging and addictive as anorexia. (I always believed I had the "lesser" of the two ED's - silly me) I can see how it could be triggering, for me it did the opposite because the parts that stayed in my mind were some of the dire possible consequences of continuing with my ED. Perhaps just read a little and see how it is going to strike you. It is in fact an excellent book, I think it may be aimed more at the families of ED sufferers rather than those suffering though?:gimmehug :gimmehug
