Hi fishies.

I was wondering if anyone has tried relaxation tapes that help them calm down, or help them go to sleep? Maybe guided imagery, or just sounds. I've never tried any of these and would like to since I often have trouble sleeping, and calming down. Let me know what you liked about it.

Thank you.

Miranda,
While I was IP (for anorexia and bulimia) the biofeedback/relaxation instructor recommended Letting Go Of Stress by Emmett Miller M.D..it was designed for anorexic patients and does help me to relax. Also, I have a CD of ocean music that I will listen to before bed as well. I am not sure if you have a Target store (or similar type of store) near where you live, but ours has a "press the button and hear the music/sounds" etc.. before hand. They have several types that you may find relaxing. I really do find that music relaxes, calms the nerves, and inspires (especially during journaling/drawing). Hope that this helps. Take care.
Hugs,
annebear

:hugon Miranda :hugoff When I first started having really bad panic attacks, my riding instructor and I got together and came up with some of the CDs of nature sounds (i.e. Rain, Ocean, Wind Chimes) and really relaxing scented lotion. It helped me a lot at that time, just very releasing. . .

Belleruth Naparstek has a wonderful voice and records CDs I found helpful the first time I listened and now, after a month of listening regularly for a month, is having a cumulative effect. She is well represented on the web. Peace to all of us.

I love Doreen Virtue's Chakra Clearing meditation CD. It was really relaxing for me, and it helped me feel more aware of my body.

I am resurrecting this thread to say that I tried Flamingofeet's recommendation of Doreen Virtue's CD and I absolutely love it and recommend it to others. It's getting me more in touch with my power and my love.

I'm going to try these other suggestions too.

Any more ideas???

One of my favorite artists is Medwyn Gooddall. He is considered "New Age" and has done a number of albums. I absolutely love his "Medicine Woman" series. He has also done a variety of nature, animal, and spiritual themed cds. He uses both natural sounds as well as many different instruments to evoke unique sounds. He really does a great job with this. I've always found these cds helpful for relaxation.

Here's a link to his music. You can also download clips from it.

Not exactly relaxation -tapes per se, but wonderful, soothing and calming audio CDs....

Warming the Stone Child: Myths and Stories About Abandonment and the Unmothered Child by Clarissa Pinkola Estes. From Amazon.com: if you have been weighed down by guilt, shame, anger and depression which seems to have dominated your adult life, if you still don't seem to know who you are as a woman when everyone else seems to know where they are going, if you still feel an overwhelming need to be parented, then, this cassette comes as highly recommended. The author, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, sounds as if she has travelled a very similar journey. Her voice is warm, soothing and empathic, as she explains why unmothered children get locked into certain ways of behaving, the depressions, the feelings of unworthiness and low self-esteem, and the far-reaching effects such abuse can have on adult life. Listening to this tape will give any unmothered adults, (especially women), hope, understanding, and empowerment to find their way back to the child they once were.

and

Bedtime Stories also by the same author. Synopsis from Amazon.com:
The power of a bedtime story is undeniable - to soothe away the troubles of the day, while preparing the way for another night's dreams to follow. Clarissa Pinkola Estes gathers the stories most treasured as healing companions at bedsides around the world with Bedtime Stories. This is an all-new collection of comforting stories told by a master practitioner for listeners of all ages.

These are both great resources for :fishys and I recommend them. :gimmehug:lubdub:gimmehug

I ordered a CD called Sleep Soundly by Steven Halpern. It's so nice to listen to while I try to fall asleep. Several of the tracks are various arrangement of Braham's Lullaby, which makes me feel like a baby getting rocked to sleep. It's a sweet way to end the day and thinking back to a time when you were cradled in someone's arms and all wrapped up...a reminder to be gentle with ourselves :gimmehug

Thanks for the wonderful suggestions. Everything sounds so intriguing. I can't wait to try some of them.

If anybody else has any experience with soothing healing relaxing CD's please add them, and any fishies out there who've tried any of these or others and wish to add your comment, that would be great too.

Bellaruth Naperstak, easily found on the internet, has wonderful cd's that really help. She has one for sleep that I still haven't heard the end of. I have the ones on depression, general health, affirmations, and sleep. They are terrific. I really encourage you to get one and try it. It is the only thing that has helped me. :happy

Some that arn't aimed specifically for relaxation / meditation but seem to calm me are instrumental pieces, such as classical guitar, rachmaninov, debussy, mozart, bach.... those old classical guys :smile
