Hello ::bowl,

Recently, a fishy suggested the book "An Unquiet Mind" by Kay Redfeild Jamison.

It's WONDERFUL. Well-written, terrifically insightful, just what I needed to read.

Has anyone else read it?

Its the story of Dr. Jamison's struggle with bipolar disorder, and her public "coming out." She is a faculty member at Johns Hopkins in the psychiatry dept., so her honesty was tricky.

I'm in a similar spot -- whether or not to be honest about my current status with my university where I am a counseling student.

Glad you enjoyed it!! It is one of my favorites and she is one of my favorite authors. I definitely suggest you check out Exuberance if you like her writing style. I actually read that book for my Abnormal Psyc course because the professor wanted us to get the sense of what it was like to have a mental disorder (oh the irony, if only he had known).

I cannot give the book high enough praise. I hope it gave you some stuff to chew on about your role as a counseling student.

I read An Unquiet[ Mind severeal years ago and really liked it. I want to read Exuberance as well as Night Falls Fast which is about understanding suicide. They ar eboth on my reading list as well as a slew of others.

I've read both An Unquiet Mind and Night Falls Fast, which I found really intruiging. I like how she combines personal experience with research.

I've seen Exuberance in the bookstore and almost bought it, but the one copy that was left looked like it had been a doormat before it landed on the shelf.
