I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good book for my Aunt to read in understanding what eating disorders are, some common causes and what to expect as I experience and ED

Surviving an Eating Disorder by Siegel, Brisman, and Weinshel is often recommended for families.

Thanks for the advice on the book, what does the book talk about? Would the book be helpful to my aunt who knows little about me or the events leading to ed?

I haven't read it myself. I just know a lot of parents and professionals who recommend it to families who need to learn about EDs.

ctsun,
I saw both of these in the new Gurz catalog. I haven't read either text but, the titles might be what you were looking for:
*** (one hundred) Questions and Answers About Eating Disorders by Carolyn Costin
The ED Sourcebook by Carolyn Costin
The Beginners Guide To Eating Disorders (for teens/college age individuals)
You can find most books at www.bulimia.com which is the website for Gurz books. Then if you find a title that your interested in try your library or even Inter-library loan to check out the books before buying. Usually, most books for the ILL service must be at least one year old in there publication dates before they are available to loan out--so two thousand and six books or earlier would be available...but check with your branch library, they may be able to find someone to loan it sooner. Hope this helps. Take care.
