hi all!

got a quick question that i'm sure SOMEONE here can answer . . .

BTW - i'm not asking for research purposes, merely to clarify something in my own head. I AM researching stuff for a paper for psych, but am NOT asking for people's stories or anything like that. Hope I won't offend anyone.

What's the difference, if any, between Binge-Eating Disorder and Compulsive Overeating? Or are the two terms used interchangeably? If that's the case, which is the preferred term?

I know it really doesn't matter HOW an ED manifests itself - they are ALL serious disorders and ALL result from underlying problems. I know most about anorexia and bulimia; I feel badly because, as a long-time :fishy, I should be a more educated on the other disorders.

Thanks for the input!

BED is defined as eating very large amounts of food within a two-hour period (binging). But many people overeat without binging. They may snack/grave throughout the day, instead of only when hungry. That is compulsive overeating.

It's also common to use both behaviors, binging and grazing.

Thanks Millie :dragon!!

Your explanation makes a lot more sense than the article I was reading.

Have a good day!

Thanks Kensington!

I'll print these out as soon as the line for the printer decreases!

BTW - I just e-mailed you with a more detailed question related to this class. Didn't want to accidentally break any forum rules and thought it might be a grey area.
