So I just finished the Body Image Workbook and it was good. Excellent for me to identify how I see myself and what I need to work on. I'm the type of person that likes to-do lists and am very task oriented, so the worksheets were really beneficial in making me feel like I was taking actual steps toward recovery.

Anyhow, I'm looking for another book, more focused on ED. I'm EDNOS b/c my weight isn't low enough currently....but my problem is restricting and over exercising. Any suggestions on good reading? Not so much about AN, but about the ED, how to recover, where to go from here. I'm stuck right now and need a good kick in the @ss! Thanks!

dear starforty,
hi. i don't know the body image workbook, but i can recommend a few other books for you. my sister has just given my a book called My Life With Ed. I'm not sure of your age, but my sister is in her twenties and she found this book really helpful. I'm a bit older, suffering a relapse, but a friend in publishing gave me an advance copy of another book which i've just finished and which reminded me how much i needed a community like this one: it's called Gaining, by Aimee Liu. I think it will be out and available for the public in the next few weeks. The author interviewed a lot of women, with varying stories and levels of success, but it was a wonderful seque into my seeking this community. Nice to hear success stories. And it actually taught me quite a bit about why my sister and i both suffer (it isn't just interviews, it's also her personal story and a lot of the psychological background of the disease). It's the first time I haven't felt defeat all around me in several months. Let me know if you pick it up. I hope these recommendations help. Best. C.A.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm definitely going to look into those books. I'm in my late twenties, so I think the first one might fit with what I'm looking for. I appreciate the suggestion.

If you liked the workbook based book you might like the Don't Diet Live It workbook...I use it in conjuction with my T and really have enjoyed it. It's very thought provoking and very directly linked to the ED and not just the body image portion of the disorder..hope it helps!

Much love,

Okay, so I know this post is about books... but.... what do you mean by "currently"?

starforty,

Another good book is "Eating in the Light of the Moon" by Anita Johnston, which is this month's book club pick. One book focused particularly on EDNOS is "Life Inside the Thin Cage" by Constance Rhodes. It's Christian in focus, but it doesn't detract at all from the good information.

EDNOS is still an eating disorder. You don't need to lose more weight in order to 'qualify' for anything.

Good :clover!

Thanks for the other suggestions. And to respond to you, Mantis, I'm currenlty at a healthy weight, although I wasn't just a few months ago. I guess I'm working towards staying in recover??? Good question though.
