I was just curious if there were any good teen fiction books on EDs i'd really appreciate it. I'm currently reading life in the fat lane. It's pretty interesting, but it can be triggering at times. Thanks.

:gimmehug hi
I have also read, "Life in the Fate Lane", and the thing I remember most about reading that book is having the person at the cash register at Barnes and Noble say, "You don't think you're fat do you?" :wacky The book for me was very triggering and just pathetic feeling. That was actually one of the books I decided to give away, almost like a pair of "skinny jeans", I felt like I couldn't let go of it, but I wanted to so bad. Sorry...I guess I don't have high views on the book.
Anyways, good teen fiction on e/ds..."Just Listen" by Sarah Dessen, is about a girl with a sister who has an e/d, the book is really good, and it is interesting to see a different perspective of e/ds. (the book is not based on eating disorders).
For some reason only "self-help" and non-fiction books are coming to my mind, but if I think of anymore, I will let you know :happy
take care,

The Best Little Girl in the World is a good book to recommend that others read to understand something about the craziness in the head of someone who has anorexia--but I found it very triggering to me even BEFORE my ED and still triggering in recovery.
It's also outdated medically. My recommendation would be NOT to read it, although in the end the main character comes to the conclusion "I don't have to be sick to get attention" which was enlightening for me. Rather, give it to someone who is actively and openly trying to understand why you can't just "eat a sandwich."

One of my favorite YA books I read as a teenager and then again as an adult is "Second Star to The Right" by Deborah Hautzig. It is the story of Lesle, the heroin in the story's struggle with Anorexia. Written in the first person you really get into her head, with the ED voice and all, and feel for her. It's terribly sad at first but has a happy ending, as she does meet other girls also struggling with ED's and gets treatment. I give this story five :stars :stars :stars :stars :stars!!
Another good one is "Stick Figure: A Diary of My Former Self" by Lori Gottleib, which is actually the diary of the author at age eleven when she first began suffering from Anorexia. The book is SO realalistic and sad in a way, but also really cute and funny because of how it was written, from the perspective of a little girl. Like all good YA books, "Stick Figure" also has a happy ending - Lori does get help and writes in the afterward as a recovered adult. I give this book four :stars :stars :stars :stars!!

More Than You Can Chew by Marnelle Tokio is absolutely fantastic, but very triggering--it includes numbers, if I recall correctly.

I LOVED Second Star to the Right when I was younger, i still do love it - though I do think it is triggering; in fact, i think it was the first book I read that triggered me, and I was only about eleven or twelve....but still a very good book, just be warned that it might trigger you. I really identified with the main character, who never finds one clear cut reson why she has developed anorexia; it's not a response to abuse or anything dramatic, it just happens. Which of course is what happens to many people.
Another really good one for teens, which has only recently come out is called "Monkey Taming" by Judith Fathallah. The author is extremely young hereself, just started university , I think, and although it is fictional, I think its very strongly based on her own experience of anorexia. It is definately for young readers and very good - though, be warned, there are a LOT of numbers and weights mentioned.
Hope this helps!
lots of love xx

I third "Second Star to the Right" as a good realistic fiction book.
