Dear :fishy s
A few months ago I went to see Eve Ensler's "Vagina Monologues", and I recommend them. A real mixture. Painful and funny and sad and angry and all sorts. Go with a good friend. I have lots of issues in this area and lots of pain but I coped and found it a positive and uplifting experience.
I have even written my own that I plan to read out on my psychotherapy course. I will need courage that day.
Love to you all,

I second that! If you are fortunate enough to see the play, try to see it in a small theater. It makes a huge difference.

well, isn't this just a neat little coincedence??? i've recently just transfered from a two year to a four year school and i'm a theatre major. my academic advisor has mentioned a number of times that she does the vagina monolougues each year and asks me if i'm going to "do the show" when it comes up. well, not being at all familiar with it, and a lot less "open" to such "things", i keep telling her that i don't know if i can do that. see, i've heard people say it's a rather racy and at times even 'raunchy' show...i do know that i read in one article that a company somewhere (in michigan) was doing them while naked on stage....not my idea of a good time as it were. so, could any of you (please) who have seen the show or are familiar with it, please give me a little info on its content? i would really appreciate it. i mean, i don't want to miss a great opportuniy, but i certainly don't want to do something just this side of 'soft porn' either....especially not with my (lack of) self esteem these days! thank you so much.

I would say go for it, but obviously you have to feel comfortable yourself.
I saw Amy Irving, Mariella Frostrup and Marianne Jean Baptiste. They were not naked. They wore black dresses. They performed the monologues by referring to cards they held in their hands.
There was some making of orgasm noises I remember, but the content really varies depending on which monologue you perform. There is one about rape in Bosnia, one about an old woman who has never had sex, one about an angry vagina ... all sorts really. If you want to know more about the content you can actually buy the book.
Email me at phenomenal.woman@virgin.net if you want any more details.

I've really wanted to see this since I first heard of it. Too bad I live in a small town, so it will probably be awhile. Wish I could talk the local theatre into doing it - like that will happen :sly :cool Oh, well, glad to hear it's worth the wait!

It was so amazing.... it really helped me in so many new ways. Women are so full of beauty and it is ok to talk about it.

Hello. :shy
I did it. I performed my vagina monologue today as part of a presentation - project I did at college about my relationship with my body.
I am proud of myself.
My group were very supportive and it was a healing and uplifting experience.

I suggest you use an internet bookshop.
ISBN no is one eight six zero four nine nine two six zero
Publisher is Virago.
I found mine fairly easily, but I can't remember which section! It sounds like you have tried the right ones though, so if asking is too difficult, the internet is probably the best bet.

Hey everyone, this is the first time I have ever posted here, but I wanted to let you all know that my theatre minor is preforming "Fling" and exerpts from "Vagina Monologues" in mid Feburary I am not sure of the dates, but I will know them soon (I had better, I am stage manager :yay :ican ). Could you just let me know if there is interest, just because I am curious..........if there is we might be able to add an extra night cause it is only running **** I believe, and it is a small black box theatre. Thanks!
Love, Liz
