Tomorrow is the first day of summer - YAY!!! It is also the solstace, and this is my absolute favorite sabbat!
The Sun God will be at his highest and brightest, since the day is the longest. In our house we will greet him and invoke for fertility of the land. Yet also, as true with sabbats, we will also pay attention to the past and future. The ancient Greeks said "Panta rhei, ouden menei" - "Everything flows, nothing is static" So life is a process, not a state, and thru our sabbats we put ourself in tune with that process.
Tomorrow the Oak King (God of the waxing year) will fall to the Holly King, his twin (God of the waning year). This is a big deal :cute
The Goddess will now be showing promise of resurgent life with the birth of the new Holly King, while she still presides over the death of the Oak King. She will dance the Dance of Life, yet she knows this is transient and is whispering "Panta rhei, ouden menei" :winky
This is a fire festival and a water festival, fire being the God aspect and water being the Goddess aspect. We will have two bonfires, as we use the one cauldron as Cauldron of Cerridwen. (hey do any of u remember my horse Cerridwen? this is where she got her name!)
Other fun stuff is we make protective amulets with herbs such as rue and rowan. We make pouches for psychic dreams (mugwort and bay leaves), and we put lavendar on the pillows for sleep time. My daughter's favorite is making a solar wheel with grape vines. She also likes the Witch's Ladder. And she always always always LOVES our sidhe spells (but these r a secret for our house-sacred to our Book of Shadows)
So Merry Litha everyone and BLESSED BE!
:love
