Just have to say that meditation is the one way that really connects me spiritually, and (I think) it can work with ANY spiritual or religious beliefs!!! TRY IT!!!

I totally agree. I meditate for one hour every morning; and I try to do more during the day. I would be so lost without meditating.

"Enter stillness...This is the ultimate goal of meditation."

The best motivation for meditation is NO motivation. There shouldn't really be a reason to meditate. It cannot truly be used for profit. It is something you do, pure and simple. If it is something you do for the sake of gaining, you will fail. Surrender your desires for gain, and meditation will flow :supergrin

Look within. There lies truth. Stillness... you can see your inner self.

Good topic, Jen :yay

I agree. I'm a big fan of meditation/prayer. I found sitting in quietness extrememly difficult at first. It was so unnatural for me! But it's a discipline and with much patience and perseverance my quiet times started to "settle down." I feel more balanced when I can meditate/pray and my emotions are not quite a dominating. I think we all can get caught up in the busyness and the chaos of frantic thinking. Meditating can clear the mind and help us realize who we really are.

:hugon JenRebekah :hugoff You are sooooo right:supergrin......If I get away from my meditation I very quickly lose it :scared......I believe God's spirit is in each of us and we have to listen carefully to get in touch with it again......Meditation quiets the mind and allows it to heal and find peace, what could be better for any problem.......:sleepy :peace :dog

It is my first time, posting here, and I just want to say that I meditate every day for half hour and it is good! It has helped me a lot! It is a time, where I stop and try to listen to my REAL me. I just got back from a meditation for **** hours. It was good, I am in peace, and :happy

You welcomed me to the Recovery board, so I'm extending my fin and welcoming you here to the Spirituality board!! :yay

I am not myself the whole day if I don't get in my meditation in the morning. I'm still having problems finding time to do it either in the afternoon or the evenings, but at least I got the mornings down pat :supergrin .

There are so many different kinds of meditation - quiet ones and more lively ones (chanting or singing for example) - so I think it is a good thing to shop around until you find a method that works for you.

It really helps me focus, and also helps to calm me down many times when I'm having panic attacs or anxiety.

Not a bad thing! :cool

Meditation is a wonderful healing and centering practice. My advice, to those who do not have a meditation practice , or find it difficult to stay still, try to sit comfortably in a quiet space and concentrate on breathing for five minutes, or just one or two minutes! This is a great way to get started.:flower

:peace to all you wonderful :fishy ....

Yes, I agree with Priya, there are LOTS of different types of meditations. Most of the time I do zazen (sitting meditation), but I've occassionally done kinhin (walking meditation). Not formally, mind you. Either by myself or with a few others.

Walking meditation is REALLY GOOD if your stressed :winky !!
I speak this from experience :supergrin !!
