Did anyone understand what Bush meant when he said "we have dueling green eye shades?"

This is a guess... but it might have been a response to the fact that Senator Kerry's team gave out eye-glasses to his supporters prior to the debate. They looked like those cardboard three-D movie glasses, except they had a pinkish colored lens -- to signify that Bush's adminitration is looking through the world with "rose colored glasses".

I was in the audience in the debate hall tonight at Wash U (gotta love the student lottery:winky) and it was soooooooooo exciting!!! The atmosphere in the hall definitely
favored Bush, but I think Kerry was much more adept at handling the questions.

That's so cool, OnceAleaf! My friends and I were watching the debate and we kept wondering "I wonder how they picked who got to be in the room"
Did you have to go through all kinds of Secret Service clearance stuff to be sure you weren't some crazy assassin person? (oops, maybe shouldn't have said that) haha

I really liked Kerry's response to the Supreme Court Appointee question ~ that he thought the best judge would be one who when you read their opinion, you wouldn't be able to tell if they were republican or democratic, but would think it was an excellent opinion under the law :yay

I also thought it was funny when Bush was talking about who he would appoint and tried to use the example that he wouldn't appoint someone who supported slavery ~ he started to say that the constitution didn't condone slavery and that all people should have equal rights - but he stopped himself halfway through that sentence and said something else about equality but not that everyone has equal rights. I wonder if he stopped himself because he doesn't support equality for gay marriage :ohboy Anyway, I did think it was funny that he had to stop himself from saying that under the constitution everyone should have equal rights :muhaha I hope others picked up on that too :grin

Finally, I was disappointed, although not surprised, that Bush wasn't able to come up with three decisions that he had made that he now felt were mistakes. I swear there is not a humble bone in that mans body! :ugh So the best he could come up with was that he had made some mistakes in who he appointed, but didn't want to say their names on national :antenna because he didn't want to hurt their feelings??!! *shakes head* I think that answer was a cop-out and I wonder who he was referring to...

I'm interested to hear what others thought! :sly

I think the debate was very good, it was engaging and actually I felt like I heard hard core differences between the candidates. Ultimately, I think the debate was a tie, the winner the format. I also think, that a lot of people most likely were swayed one way or the other, mostly because of the diffinitive answers given.

OnceaLeaf, I'm so jealous you got to see the debate in person. What were your questions for Bush and Kerry? Did you get asked?
I thought that Kerry won, but Bush did much better than he did in the first debate (which wasn't hard for him to do :ohboy).
I wonder what Kerry whispered in Bush's ear before and after the debate. My guess before, "One down, two do go." and after, "Two down, one to go."

I wasn't actually in the town hall, but I was in the audience. There was an audience there watching the town hall forum but we weren't actual participants. I wish I could have been! I go to Wash U, and they had a lottery to allow a certain number of students to be in the audience watching the town hall happen. But still, it was so cool. I was like ******** ft from Mr. Kerry and President Bush. And there were Secret Service and snipers all over the place!

I felt that the debate was more interesting with the town hall format. I feel that Bush did better because he seemed stronger and much more really passionate and adamant and well presented last night. I think that Kerry did well too, but I was much more impressed by Bush, especially in his closing statements. I was shocked that Kerry cited the wrong year for the World Trade Center attack!

I thought it was an overall tie. I, too, like the "Town Hall" type of forum. I thought Bush talked more like "a president" altho at times he seemed a little pushy with Charlie Gibson. (he did a lot better job than the first debate :winky!!). My hubby thought the most hilarious time was at the beginning when Kerry walked out with that humongous grin on his face. :muhaha

daaby... not quite the same, but, when Kerry was here in Wisconsin, he called Lambeau Field (home of the Packers, which most people know, certainly a sports fan, which Kerry calls himself) Lambert Field :surprise!!! There are now billboards up saying "You want a president that doesn't even know Lambeau Field???????" That goes down big time with the Packer/nut/fans here :muhaha

I liked the debate and thought it was helpful. Cleared up a lot of issues for me.

On one of my boyfriend's boards they are allowed to set up polling stuff on their own. Is there anyway we will be able to do that if we follow the rules set forth by you and Toni? Thanks.

I think that Bush comes across as defensive and angry. If he knows he's doing what's right, why is he so defensive?

I think that Kerry won the debate because he comes across very calm and in control. That is the kind of leader I want.

daaby..... About halfway through the debate (I taped it and just watched it :winky) Kerry makes reference to the World Trade Bombing in nineteen ninety-three; is that what you're talking about? (mind you: this is the BOMBING, not the plane attacks)

I just about peed my pants when Bush cited "The Dred Scott Decision" in a Justice he would not appoint to the Supreme Court.

Oh my.

My sister is a die hard Republican, and I am a Democrat...we've agreed to disagree...but we both giggled at that one. She MADE me watch...I informed her that would take chocolate cake and coffee, so I missed the first ten minutes hitting up Starbuck's...but we then debriefed. (She was impressed that I actually listened and brought up points for my "homework".) :winky

But yeah...Dred Scott and slavery? That decision happened FOREVER AGO...but I guess he didn't want to TOUCH Roe v. Wade.

"The Constitution of the US says we're all..." What? Equal? Does that include everyone. Oh I'm sorry, he didn't say that cause he stopped himself.

It struck both Tony and I as funny, in a sad sort of way.

Of course, we all on the "internets" now too... :muhaha

It was the Declaration of Independence...one would HOPE that the President knew this that he was wanting to quote, not the Constitution. (Was he wired?? I think his people may have stopped him there.) People who want to become naturalized citizens have to learn all this stuff, and most Americans can't remember it at all. Oh my.

Besides...for much of our Nation's history, the document was interpreted as:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"

Unless they are a woman, of color, a different religion, ability, sexual preferance and/or deemed inferior by the white males in power for any reason in particular.

Oops...did I say that out loud? :muhaha
