I went today to pick up a presidential candidate yard sign to stick in the ground in our yard (not saying for who :winky) and the lady said to be sure to bring it in at night because there have been numerous signs either vandalized or stolen. WHAT?? Who would do such a thing? There has also been, TWICE, in our local paper, people writing in with complaints that their signs have been stolen. Why do people do this?
Vote for who you want to vote for -- don't silence other people's voices. Sheesh.
Any other cities/states going through this problem?

Um..... purple tao.... I have a confession to make :sly .... it was me :shy......
just kidding. I know it's not a laughing matter. That hasn't been happening around here that I've heard.
Ironically before reading your post, I drove by a house that had signs for the presidential candidate I'm not voting for and I did wonder what would happen if somebody (not necessarily me :muhaha) would go take them down in the middle of the night. I would NEVER do that, admittedly because I'd be too scared, not because it doesn't seem like a good idea sometimes.
After reading your post I definitely will perish the thought :muhaha.

To me, it sounds like a truly pathetic (and passive/aggressive) attempt to influence the election. (at the same time, I've thought of doing it too--slapping myself here!)
At the same time, people will steal anything. There have been tons of those magnet ribbon things that say "Support our Troops" that people stick on their cars stolen here, then presumably re-sold (or perhaps there is a REALLY patriotic person out there collecting them who can't afford five bucks a shot?) I live in a small community but park benches, lawn ornaments, X-mas displays, and even statues have disappeared. I noticed that people have started chaining down their statues!

It's terrible that people are doing this! Others have no right to be taking away anothers freedom of speech, freedom to express their opinions. In my city last week, yard signs were removed and in their place, the perpetrators "burned" swastikas into the grass using weed/grass killer. I just want this election to be over...

Yes, in our area people have been stealing Edward/Kerry yard signs. I am in the hurricane panhandle FL. I guess that shows the maturity of the other sides people, at least some of them.

Kerry/Edwards yard signs are being stolen here a lot, too. They cost three bucks, which I imagine a lot of the sign thieves don't know. Everytime one is stolen, more money is donated to Kerry's campaign fund in order to buy a new sign, so any Bush fans that are stealing yard signs are really just donating to Kerry. :cheesy

The stealing of signs= Three Bucks reminds me of "Pledge a Picket". :) That REALLY cut down on the amount of people outside of the Planned Parenthood where I went to college. The more protesters, the more money made.
and WHAT is up with W Ketchup? A tasty ketchup made "ALL in America" that doesn't help the Heinz Dynasty? OMG. Capitalism, gotta love it.
I'll stick to Malt Vinegar and salt and pepper on my Pommes Frittes. (Not Freedom Fries...FRENCHIER Fries.)

I really think that it is so pathetic and low of people to be stealing, vandalizing, ruining, etc the signs that people put up. For goodness sake, FREEDOM is what this country is about and to ruin others freedom of speech and freedom of expression is violating the very things that this country stands for. That is also a scary fact about the magnet ribbons being stolen because I have a red white and blue ribbon on my car which is a newer car (thank goodness there is an anti theft system on the car) - but for anyone to even think of doing that is insane- not to mention trespassing and vandalizing property.
I also have a story to tell about vandalization... when my family (I wasn't there but heard this) was vacationing, they rented a house where a family member had ordered a huge sign for their candidate that my family is for. My family noticed some people across the street looking suspiciously at the candidate sign, and when my family went out to dinner, they returned home to the sign being torn down from outside of the house!!! Someone in my family called the police to investigate, and looked up a politician in the phone book who said that they knew nothing about it and were very sorry that it happened. I just think the audacity of people's actions is horrible!
Just my opinion!:usa :septll :ribflag :peace

the same exact thing has been happening to the Kerry/Edwards signs in my town! The democratic committee for my town put together these "poems" that they have all over town...for example "if you think...Bush is scary....cast your vote...to edwards/kerry!" Sometimes I get annoyed at people's yard signs, but who would be mad enough to vandalize? The criminal mind is a strange thing :supergrin

I think its very immature to destroy Pres cand. yard signs. I have my sign up and the other guy can have his up, its a free country... go for it. If someone stole my sign it'd make me want to go out and do more for Bush. Nothing like a little persecution to get you on fire for your cause. :cute

I heard that sign stealing has been a big problem around here lately...so some of the sign-owners have started to fight back. They put vaseline, KY jelly, or sometimes even itching powder on their signs to discourage the vandals from taking the signs. Hehehe, maybe you could try that. :winky:muhaha

I was really mad when someone stole my :ribpink breast cancer awareness :ribpink magnetic ribbon off the back of my car!!!! Grrrr!!! :reallymad
This gets me so mad when I hear about signs being stolen, cars being vandalized because of their stickers, stickers being scraped off cars, etc. It's sick. Don't these people understand that it's theft and vandalism? It's criminal!
The US is so great because we are all free to express our own views. If someone is petty enough and obsessed enough to steal a sign or vandalize a car, they don't appreciate the freedom that we have. That makes me angry.
